“[A]ll parties agree that Proposition 8 had one effect only. It stripped same sex...”
– Judge Reinhardt, finding Proposition 8 to be unconstitutional.  Fist pumps at my desk, you guys. Read the whole opinion here.  (via fullcredit) OK, I feel a little better about America now. (via jeanhannah) Standing ovation.

After an extensive life brainstorm over brunch with Queenie, I’ve become a little obsessed by one of the takeaways (in addition to the corn relish she so thoughtfully delivered). I want to start framing maps from the opening pages of some of my favorite books. Now the decision is whether I just start hunting down used copies for harvesting or if I try to find a legit source.

“Things I like about my job” is a blessedly long list. Pretty predictable altogether, but now I have a weird one that I was only able to isolate today: the way people carry their computers. A lot of jobs would have you hooked on email. I certainly didn’t like to be away from it at my last job either. You don’t want to miss anything, it’s only more to read later, etc....

“The President made one of his very best speeches tonight. Dad and I were both...”
– The email equivalent of getting a note in my lunchbox. All members of the Langsen family have been in touch and all, it seems, were on their feet, clapping.

Portion Control
An unexpected side effect of not leaving my desk for 12 hours at a time. Nevermind that the portions being managed are generic Swedish fish disguised as meals. Meal-planning returns next week.

A friend from college used to say that the day wasn’t over until she took her shoes off. I’ve adopted that strategy. I can keep going as long as I have my shoes on but, at this rate, days may warrant packing a change of socks.

Reluctant Meal Planning
Given the recent shift in lifestyle/general state of constant adrenaline rush, I am attempting a significantly more organized approach to mealtime. I’ve been reading about meal planning for a few years and have had a few friends successfully undertake it but the lack of spontaneity/inflexibility toward cravings deterred me. Now that most days seem to meet excitement quotas before appetites...

The Bomb Buried In Obamacare Explodes... →
The Affordable Care Act already meant a lot for a jarring number of families without any kind of healthcare option. The piece of it covered in this rather mirthful Forbes article significantly raises the returns for the rest of the 99% we’ve been hearing so much about.  The money you’ve been doling out for healthcare coverage actually has to go toward keeping you healthy now....
