“Things I like about my job” is a blessedly long list. Pretty predictable altogether, but now I have a weird one that I was only able to isolate today: the way people carry their computers. A lot of jobs would have you hooked on email. I certainly didn’t like to be away from it at my last job either. You don’t want to miss anything, it’s only more to read later, etc....

“The President made one of his very best speeches tonight. Dad and I were both...”
– The email equivalent of getting a note in my lunchbox. All members of the Langsen family have been in touch and all, it seems, were on their feet, clapping.

Portion Control
An unexpected side effect of not leaving my desk for 12 hours at a time. Nevermind that the portions being managed are generic Swedish fish disguised as meals. Meal-planning returns next week.

A friend from college used to say that the day wasn’t over until she took her shoes off. I’ve adopted that strategy. I can keep going as long as I have my shoes on but, at this rate, days may warrant packing a change of socks.

Reluctant Meal Planning
Given the recent shift in lifestyle/general state of constant adrenaline rush, I am attempting a significantly more organized approach to mealtime. I’ve been reading about meal planning for a few years and have had a few friends successfully undertake it but the lack of spontaneity/inflexibility toward cravings deterred me. Now that most days seem to meet excitement quotas before appetites...

The Bomb Buried In Obamacare Explodes... →
The Affordable Care Act already meant a lot for a jarring number of families without any kind of healthcare option. The piece of it covered in this rather mirthful Forbes article significantly raises the returns for the rest of the 99% we’ve been hearing so much about.  The money you’ve been doling out for healthcare coverage actually has to go toward keeping you healthy now....

queenieinmanhattan: likeproust: queenieinmanhattan: Making a pumpkin bourbon pie right now. It smells pretty good, not gonna lie. GRRL, I’m gonna need that recipe. Now.  Ask and ye shall receive. One bourbon pumpkin pie recipe, at your service. I serve it with bourbon-spiked whipped cream. This is a pie we should all be making. Extra whipped cream for me, please. Manhattan chaser.

Scott Walker recall, Day 1, by the numbers →
The first day of the recall of Scott Walker is now in the books. Here are some key numbers on what happened: 400,000: The number of technical college students in Wisconsin who Republicans yesterday decided should have more stringent ID requirements in order to vote. 10,000+: The number of recall Walker petition forms the Democratic Party of Wisconsin said were downloaded online. Scalia and Thomas dine with healthcare law... →
soupsoup: The day the Supreme Court gathered behind closed doors to consider the politically divisive question of whether it would hear a challenge to President Obama’s healthcare law, two of its justices, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas, were feted at a dinner sponsored by the law firm that will argue the case before the high court. This? Is not okay.

Farmer’s Film is an incredible project from Cinnamon Kennedy, who we met at Blue Ridge Food Ventures over the weekend. Her team’s efforts to connect the dots between farmers and the public shine a light on the challenges and little victories for America’s smaller food producers. Each participating farmer has a camera from which Kennedy’s team collects footage and cuts...
